Bac Ninh will have a semiconductor factory of 1.6 billion USD

Amkor Technology Group (Korea) will invest in a factory to manufacture, assemble and test semiconductor materials and equipment in Bac Ninh province with a total capital of 1.6 billion USD.

According to information from National Assembly Television, the investment registration certificate for this project has just been given to Amkor Technology Group by the leader of Bac Ninh province on the occasion of the official visit to Korea by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

Amkor Technology, Inc.’s semiconductor material production, assembly, and testing project will be deployed at Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park, Bac Ninh province, on more than 230,870 m2. This project is expected to start construction in the first quarter of next year and operate at the end of 2023, with a total investment of 1.6 billion USD by 2035.

In the first five years, the group will pour about US$520 million, providing advanced system-in-package (SiP) assembly and test solutions to the world’s leading semiconductor and electronics manufacturing companies.

Amkor Technology, Inc. is one of the world’s largest suppliers of semiconductor outsourcing testing and packaging (OSAT) services with headquarters in the United States. The group is now a strategic manufacturing partner for the world’s leading semiconductor companies, foundries, and electronics OEMs.

The semiconductor industry is considered one of many countries’ spearhead industries. In particular, semiconductors are fundamental components in digital devices, forming tiny microchips in electronic components found in smartphones, self-driving cars, intelligence technology, artificial intelligence, or data center… Covid-19 has severely reduced the supply of semiconductors, which is an opportunity to develop large-scale semiconductor projects.

In Vietnam, the semiconductor industry is considered a foundation to support and promote the development of other sectors, contributing to promoting economic development in depth.
