Cat Lai Port is overloaded with inventory but lacks workers
After more than two months of social distancing and more than three weeks of implementing Directive 16, Cat Lai port has fallen.

Saigon Newport Corporation has just reported difficulties in the organization and operation of seaports in Ho Chi Minh City due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. Currently, inventories are increasing, putting pressure on port production to be interrupted, but the number of workers having to take time off is up to more than 50%, leading to a local shortage of human resources. All operations of the port are falling into disrepair difficulty, deadlock.
In a report on production activities after nearly three weeks of implementing social distancing in HCMC, Saigon Newport Corporation said the number of containers entering and leaving ships, delivering and receiving yards, the number of vehicles entering, and leaving the port of delivery containers decreased over the same period before the distance, leading to an increase in inventory at Cat Lai Port.
The report of Saigon Newport clearly stated that the import and export of containers, the volume of containers entering and leaving the port decreased sharply, increasing the inventory capacity of Cat Lai Newport. The importance of delivering imported containers and receipt of export containers decreased by 4.78%, 10.48%, and 18.13%, respectively. The number of vehicles entering and leaving the delivery port decreased by 3.24%, 10.05%, and 15.59%, respectively. Cat Lai yard storage capacity always reaches its total power, especially when imported goods always come over 100% of capacity.
Currently, the amount of goods and containers in stock at Cat Lai yard always reaches total capacity, especially when imported goods reach 100% of the total.
The required number of personnel required to maintain production activities during the day is about 500 people. However, currently, the labor force needed for Cat Lai Port production is short of more than 50% (about 250 people). Although it has flexibly reduced the number of troops and managed to concentrate workers for one term, the shortage of personnel, especially satellite workers, has become increasingly severe.
To deal with the immediate situation, the leadership of Saigon Newport proposed that the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City prioritize the workforce of the Cat Lai port production line. It including workers contracted by the port’s management satellite handling personnel other objects are regularly operated at the port.
