Congress on establishing Vietnam – Netherlands Friendship Association in HCM city

As of March 18, founding congress of HCM City Vietnam – Netherlands Friendship Association was held at the headquarters of Union of Friendship Associations in HCM city for 2022-2027 tenure.

The congress was attended by leaders of the HCM City Union of Friendship Association, Committee on Overseas Vietnamese, Consulate General of the Netherlands in HCM City, Dutch Business Association in HCM City, representatives of various departments and agencies and nearly 100 official members and honorary members of the Association.

At the congress, the representative of HCM City Department of Home Affairs announced the decision on establishing Vietnam – Netherlands Friendship Association in HCM City and simultaneously announced the decision onrecognizing the campaign committee for the establishment of the Association in HCM City as a socio-political organization operating in the city.

The association is in charge of contacting, facilitating and supporting organizations and businesses of the two countries to strengthen cooperation and investment. Especially in dominant business fields of the two countries like investment, financial services, trade, tourism, cultural exchange – sport; education – training, scientific research, technology transfer, high-tech agriculture, clean energy use, circular economy, waste reduction production; solutions to combat flooding and climate change; programs for the community, charity society, welfare support, poverty elimination, etc., towards sustainable development.

Holding activities to celebrate the Netherlands National Independence Day (April 27) in HCM City, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands (09/04/1973 – 09/04/2023) ); and visiting Netherlands for tourism and learning as well. 

Speaking at the congress, Mr. Tran Trong Dung, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Journalists Association, Chairman of HCM City Journalists Association, Head of the campaign committee of the Association in HCM City said that this debutis of excitement and honor to all members. In the coming time, the Association will carry out various activities in line with principles and purposes, to meet the needs of its members and work with other friendship associations of other countries in the city to improve the efficiency of external activities, contributing to enhancing the images of the country, Vietnamese people, HCM city and Netherlands to citizens of the two countries and friends around the world.

Mr. Daniel Coenraad Stork, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in HCM City expressed his delightat the Association establishment. He believes that this would be a crucial milestone that will contribute to deepening the relationship between the two countries.

Vietnam has always been favored by the Netherlands. The Netherlands’ goal in Vietnam is to focus on promoting trade and investment, strengthening people-to-people diplomacy and bolstering the implementation of the United Nations’ sustainable development, etc., Netherlands is not only the second largest trading partner of Vietnam in the European Union but also the country with the highest investment of this region to Vietnam.

The Consul General of the Netherlands in HCM City emphasized that 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the Netherlands. Both countries have plenty of similarities such as having lots oftraders, being located along the coast, distinctive culture and language, and attracting tourists, etc. and therefrom developing based on the above resources.
