Da Nang: ‘Corporate health’ determines the resilience of the economy

Chairman of the City People’s Committee Le Trung Chinh said that the “health” of businesses is the leading factor determining the economy’s resilience after the pandemic.

Speaking at the opening of the conference “Business Dialogue” held on September 24, the Chairman of Da Nang City People’s Committee, Le Trung Chinh emphasized that the past few months have been a challenging time for the authorities, people and business community of Da Nang city. 

Le Trung Chinh said that since May 3, 2021, Da Nang had recorded more than 4,800 cases of Covid-19. To control the spread of the disease, the city has developed an appropriate approach scenario. It depends on the evolution of the disease in each period.

Da Nang said, the leaders would listen to the recommendations of businesses to remove difficulties and restore the economy. According to the head of the Da Nang government, the past few months have been a challenging time for the city’s authorities, people, and business community. In the first nine months of 2021, the industrial production index is estimated to decrease by 4.16%. State budget revenue only reached 69.1% over the same period in 2020.

The deployment of “3 on-site” or “1 road, 2 locations” models has increased costs and created many problems in operation. Many businesses have had to suspend operations or even dissolve. “But businesses are all very proactive in developing plans to adapt to the epidemic context and following the current situation,” Mr. Chinh acknowledged and thanked businesses for their understanding, sharing, and “commitment to the pandemic”. They have suffered together with the government, seriously implemented the measures to prevent and control the epidemic.

In addition, Mr. Chinh hopes that business leaders will speak frankly and recommend relevant issues so that the city can have a basis for research and find more effective and practical solutions to remove these problems, difficulties, and obstacles within the scope of competence.

The Da Nang President emphasized that the problems beyond their authority, city leaders will petition the central government to remove them. City leaders pledge to make efforts so that “no business is left behind”. It creates the best conditions to support businesses enterprises deploy production and business activities, not to break the production and supply chain.
