Quang Tri invested more than 5,800 billion VND in building an airport in the form of a PPP

Gio Quang, Gio Hai, and Gio Mai communes, Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province with a total area of 265 hectares were selected as the place to implement the airport project in the form of PPP

The People’s Committee of Quang Tri province has just submitted a report to the Prime Minister on deciding on the Quang Tri Airport construction investment policy in the form of a public-private partnership (PPP).

Accordingly, the project belongs to group A with the investor proposing the pre-feasibility study report, T&T Group. The implementation site is in Gio Quang, Gio Hai, and Gio Mai communes, Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province, with  ​​265 hectares.

The investment objective of the project is to meet the increasing demand for air transport, contributing to socio-economic development; at the same time ensure high mobility in defense, as well as in rescue work; ensure national defense – security of the Central region in general and of Quang Tri province in particular, by the planning and development orientation of the transport industry.

The project is divided into 2 phases. In phase 1, it will carry out the construction of essential works of Quang Tri airport up to 4C standard and level II military airport according to the planning and reaching the estimated capacity of about 2.2 million passengers/year in 2046 and nearly 5,600 tons of cargo in 2042.

Phase 2, investing in ground service infrastructure at the airport in 2029; Expand the passenger terminal in 2047 to ensure the operation of up to 5 million passengers; Expanding the first cargo terminal in 2043 with a capacity of about 13,700 tons/year, the second phase in 2059 with a mining capacity of about 25,500 tons/year. At the same time, to build state agencies’ offices and aviation and non-aviation service works by the planning. Moreover, military land (51.2 ha) will be invested when the army has demand.

The total investment of the project is more than 5,800 billion VND. In which the state capital is about 310 billion VND.

The project applies modern technologies in construction, management, and operation, ensuring synchronous exploitation capacity according to the criteria of safety, convenience, quality, and efficiency. They will select the civil aviation terminal for an architectural plan exam.

According to the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province, Quang Tri airport is one of 28 airports in the country in the planning for the period up to 2020, with a vision to 2030 approved by the Prime Minister in 2018. The level of importance ranks 24 out of 28 planned airports. The Ministry of Transport approved the planning in early 2021.

The resolution of the Provincial Party Committee also determined that the construction of Quang Tri airport was essential, aiming at four main functions, including passenger transport, freight and logistics, commercial services, and airport urban areas develop three strategic pillars including industry, agriculture, and tourism – services…

Quang Tri province is located in the center of the country. In 2020, this province will welcome 2 million visitors, focusing on spiritual tourist attractions such as Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery, Road 9, Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, La Vang Sanctuary…

To the north and south of Quang Tri, there are two airports, Dong Hoi (Quang Binh) and Phu Bai (Thua Thien Hue), about 100 km from the planned location of Quang Tri Airport. Both airports are located close to National Highway 1A, connecting with Quang Tri province.
